    Get PDF
The purpose of this study was to compare the effectiveness of the instructions, founded on mind mapping and traditional teaching techniques for cohesive and coherent teaching in the composition writing of tenth-grade students. This study used a pre-test post-test control group design. Sixty (60) junior students (30 boys and 30 girls) from two schools were randomly selected. The students in the control group were guided by traditional teaching techniques, and the students in the experimental group were guided by the technique of mind mapping. The Subject Achievement Test (SAT) was conducted as a pre-test and post-test on two groups to assess student achievement. As a result, it was discovered that there was a significant difference in the average posttest scores between the experimental group and the control group in terms of the student's Subject Achievement Test (SAT). In addition, gender has a great influence on students' writing performance. The conclusion is that mind mapping technique was more effective than traditional techniques in terms of students' achievements in composition writing. The study has the potential to pave the way for future researchers. Keywords: Mind-mapping technique, composition writing, Grammar Translation Method, Subject Achievement Test, students’ achievemen

Background: Fresh frozen plasma is commonly used in tertiary care hospitals. These are used to manage conditions such as coagulation derangements. Unnecessary use of fresh frozen plasma (FFP) is known to increase the risk of side effects in plasma transfusing patients like anaphylaxis, transfusion related acute lung injury (TRALI) and risk of transfusion transmitted infections etc. So judicious use of plasma is extremely important where its benefits outweigh its potential risks. Methods: Prospective observational study conducted over a period of six month. The following data were collected; provisional clinical diagnosis, indication of FFP’S, coagulation profile and gender of the patients. We evaluated all FFP transfusions, classified them as appropriate or inappropriate according to fresh frozen plasma transfusion guidelines of Directorate general of health services (DGHS).Results: A total of 808 FFP units were issued (474 units to males and 334 units to females) over a period of 6 months. Out of these, 15% (122 units) of  FFP’s were issued to intensive care unit (ICU) patients, 12.87% (104 units) to paediatrics ward, 12.25%  (99 units) to emergency ward which include patients with upper GI bleed and lower GI bleed , 6.8% (55 units) to obstetrics patients, 6.18% (50 units) to orthopaedics, 4.45% (36 units)  to road traffic accident patients, 4.20% (34 units) to Hepatic failure patients, 3.09% (25 units) to Cardiothoracic and vascular surgery (CTVS), 2.97% (24 units) to oncology patients, 2.47% (20 units) to snake bite patients, 1.23 % (10 units) to dengue patients, 1.11% (9 units)  to Haemophilia  patients, 27.38% units were issued to the patients were indication for FFP transfusion was not known. Conclusions: study showed that 66.44% were appropriate and 33.56% were inappropriate use of FFP’s in patients. This highlights the pitfalls in use of FFP among clinicians and for that matter there is need of awareness and understanding the transfusion medicine by clinicians

The family Anatidae consists of aquatic birds such as ducks, geese and swans of varied sizes that belong to the order Anseriformes (Carboneras, 1992). The Anatidae comprise of approximately 148 species (Johnsgard, 2010). This family is commonly found across the globe except for in Antarctica. Data on ecology and population of these water birds was taken from protected areas of Pir Lasura National Park (June-July 2009), Banjosa Game Reserve (May-June 2009), Dhirkot National Park (February 2008), Pir Chanasi National park (April-May 2010) and Tolipir National Park (April-May 2008). Only four species from the family Anatidae were found in the study region. Banjosa Game Reserve had the most diversity with 41 % of Mute swan, 10% of Lesser White-fronted Goose and 32% of the Northern Shoveler. Efforts are needed by the concerned parties to conserve the population of the Lesser White-fronted Goose which was only observed in Banjosa Game Reserve and had a low population density, along with a vulnerable status globally

LG Electronics is a Korean based global brand in the field of consumer electronics, home appliances and mobile communications. The critical analysis in identifying the steps taken by the LG Electronics in the light of the existing literature review helps us to correlate these steps with the enhanced brand image, brand value and brand positioning. Information is collected from various reports i.e., LG Annual reports; International Magazines from the world of Business and Tech-nology; research literatures and other reputable sources. Innovation & design and constant obsolescence of ICT and IT Products (i.e., mobiles in particular), LG have to stick on R&D, design strategies and innovation and creativity for competing in the global market

Incivility, Role-Conflict, and Emotional Exhaustion in Teaching Profession: The Moderating Role of Gender

    Get PDF
This study examined the effect of incivility and role conflict on emotional exhaustion of teaching staff. Incivility was determined in terms of discouretous and neglecting behavior of family memebrs at home while immediate supervisors at workplace. Role-conflict refers to the interferences of family members during office hours. The study further examined the moderating role of gender in each proposed effect. For empirical analysis, primary data were collected from regular teachers of public sector universities of AJ&K through mailed questionnaires. To examine the proposed direct effects, Structural equation modeling (SEM) was applied in AMOS 24. Feasible measurement model was identified and selected with the help of confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). The study further applied PROCESS macro of Hayes (2013) in SPSS 24 to examine the moderating role of gender. The results show a positive effect of family incivility, family-workplace conflict, and supervisors’ incivility on emotional exhaustion of respondents. Interestingly, the moderating role of gender was not observed for all three cases. On the basis of these findings, different policy implications were presented and discussed.&nbsp

Fuzzy Rule-based Classification Systems for the Gender Prediction from Handwriting

    Get PDF
The handwriting is an object that can describe information about the author implicitly. For example, it is able to predict the gender. Recently, the gender prediction based on handwriting becomes an interesting research. Even in 2013, an competition for prediction gender from handwriting has been held by Kaggle. However, the accuracies of current approaches are relatively low. So, in this study, we attempt to implement Fuzzy Rule-Based Classification Systems (FRBCSs) for gender predictions from handwriting. Three stages are conducted to achieve the objective, as follows: defining some features based on Graphology Techniques (e.g., pressure, height, and margin on writing), collecting real datasets, processing on digital images (i.e., image segmentation, projection profiles, and margin calculation, etc.), and implementing FRBCSs. The implemented algorithm based on FRBCSs in this research is Chi’s Algorithm, which is a method based on Fuzzy Logic for classification tasks. Moreover, some experiments and analysis, involving 75 respondents consisting of 36 males and 39 females, have been done to validate the proposed model. From the simulations, the classification rate obtained is 76%. Besides improving the accuracy rate, the proposed model can provide an understandable model by utilizing fuzzy rule-based systems

Stability of visual acuity after cessation of occlusion therapy in patients of amblyopia

    Get PDF
Background: It is generally recognized that most children with amblyopia have an improvement of visual acuity (VA) with treatment, little is known about the course of vision once treatment is decreased or stopped in a child. The treatment of amblyopia in children is frequently discussed in the literature; however, there is a lack of research into which method of treatment cessation is the most appropriate once therapy has been completed. We undertook this specifically designed prospective study to directly compare the potential relationship between the method of therapy cessation and the short-term (12-weeks) recurrence of amblyopia. Methods: Fifty children of 5-14 years of age group with different types of amblyopia fulfilling the inclusion criteria were included in the study. Once BCVA was achieved, the subjects were randomized into one of two groups; abrupt cessation group or therapy tapering group. In subjects of tapered group occlusion was reduced from full-time occlusion to 50% of waking hours at BCVA and then additional by 50% at the 4-week’s study visit with occlusion being discontinued completely at the 8-week’s visit. All subjects in the abrupt cessation group stopped their full-time occlusion completely at the Best corrected visual acuity (BCVA). All subjects were followed for 3 consecutive 4-weeks intervals, for a total of 12 weeks, to assess the short-term recurrence rate of amblyopia. Results: The overall results show that at 12-weeks study outcome visit, 9 of the 50 subjects developed recurrence. Out of the total of 9 recurrences, 5 (20%) occurred in abrupt cessation group and 4 (16%) occurred in gradual cessation group. Comparing the time of occurrence of recurrence of amblyopia between the 2 studied groups, the recurrence of amblyopia was more during first 4 weeks of study 60% in abrupt group, whereas in gradual group all the recurrences occurred between 8 and 12 weeks visits. The pre-treatment VA and BCVA had a significant impact on the recurrence of amblyopia. Conclusions: In present study, the results demonstrate that the overall risk of amblyopia recurrence is 18% and the difference in the risk of amblyopia recurrence between the abrupt cessation group and the gradual cessation group (20% vs. 16%) is not statistically significant
